Background Test

I found a way to render just the character in Maya and compile the images in Photoshop. If i can come up with a Batch system puting them together should't be to hard.

Very rough lighting, would defiantly could tweak this some more. But it Gives you an idea of what it can look like.

Hey team,
I just wanted to let everyone know that I won't be presenting with you guys on the 12th.
I will be doing the work, but due to my work schedule, I won't have time to prepare for a proper presentation with you guys. I talked to Courtney about it and he said it was up to you guys and what you expect from me. Let me know if you guys have any concerns.
Even though I am sitting this one out, I will be there on Friday to watch all the presentations. I will probably print out my work and turn it into Bunny and Courtney if they want.

Good luck everyone! Can't wait to see what you all come up with! :)

For Rishon

more city ideations

Hey guys, I thought I would post this latest set of thumbs online to see if anyone had any opinions about them.

My Animation Idea

Just FYI,
Since I had some more time to think on my idea, the more I thought about it the more it didn't work. So, I am no longer going to have Marco sitting at the table with the bread. Instead I am just going to go for him standing up in a meduim shot, talking. That way people can be more flexible with the background. I should have my acting beats ready to show by tomorrow.

Liz environment sketches

Hey Guys, I am feeling pretty under the weather, and am not going to make it to the meeting tonight. Here is the work I've done since Friday: some simple story sketches and some ideations for the city. I want the city to feel more blocky and straight, and the forest to have a more mystical feel. Let me know what you think.

Production Schedule

Hey guys, here is our production schedule...I just broke down the weeks into what I thought would work, but of course you can change it and work on different things if need be. This is only for the designers, sorry, I don't know how the work flow for animation or story goes so you guys should figure out a rough schedule for yourselves. Hope this works, Cheers.

Previous work

I am planning to work with more silhouettes for the characters and then flushing them out when I'm happy with a certain design. As far as the environments go.... 2 is the only one I like. Let me know if you guys have ideas for me and suggestions to help me with environments!

Reference Photos

Hey guys, I sent the photos to the visual development people. Let me know if you did not receive the attachment via text or something.

Inspiration Work

Here are the studies I did. I decided that the top image are going to be how the children see the world (the world is monstrous, adventurous, organic). As for the bottom studies, I might keep them, I might not...right now they are too boring for me...but who knows.

Kyle's Goals..

- have two worlds.. the real world and the imaginary world
- a more desaturated palette for the real world.. really saturated colors for the imaginary
- push the shapes, culture, and story for the character designs.. yet kept simple
- have good compositional shots.. using all elements of composition
-use color to help composition also..
-character's costumes must have bright colors..
-have that realistic yet fantasy feel..

Justin's Project Goals

-the use of color for temperature and mood
-generally bright exteriors and dark interiors
-close up shots with emphasis on facial reactions
-pushed character shapes
-a dark, yet quirky fairytale

Dora's Project Goals

Although 300 is a live action film, I'm going to approach it as a pitch for an animated film. So here are the style choices that I'm taking from 300:

- Film noir elements: dramatic camera angles, stark contrast, strong silhouettes and pushed atmospheric perspective.
- Muted color palette.
- Overall dark environments.
- Warm and cool tones to emphasis mood and story.

Liz's Iron Giant Style Choices

- economical and pleasing character design
- shapely and crisp, but 3 dimensional

- simplified color design

- background/environment to express time of day/mood
- solid shapes of color

- wide shots for scale and emphasis, otherwise med-close ups for focus on character

- overall simplified lighting
- back lighting and strong rim lights to create drama and tension

These are the overall style points I am shooting for. Should I also post the more detailed analysis that I will be sending to Bunny and Courtney?

The winner is..

The Forest on the Superhighway
-good luck!

Style Elements to Use-Aidan

Hey guys here are my style choices to work on for the project:

-extreme camera angles
-underexposed blacks, overexposed lights, high contrast (noir light sensibility)
-dense visual layering
-3 layer world structure each with distinct visual iconography (in regards to color, texture, shape/design language, saturation)
-gritty, raw, ugly, rough visual treatment
-color as emotional tool

Italo Calvino Notes

Vaporscape Logos

Here are a few logo possibilities. Hope you like.

Production Designs Sheets

Hey guys, here are the production designs sheets you asked for, hope they help. Mind you this, format works for my film your pages might be less or more and look different. I think it would be cool if we all had a different texture/background to the pages to make this cohesive yet different at the same time, but just throwing that out there. Anyway, I'm going to post my work on the server in a file labeled Vaporscape Productions, so put your pages in there when you finish with them so tommarrow we can present it all together. Also, I'll try to throw up a couple of quick logos ideas on the blog for the 'company'. haha, no really, i will and if anyone else wants to do that too please feel free. See you guys tomarrow!
